Anatomy of an ADC Gauge

Movement
The aneroid contains a watch like movement that measure the air pressure applied to the cuff. Within the gauge is a series of copper/berrylium diaphragms that expand when filled with air. Gears convert the linear movement of the diaphragms, turning the needle on a dial calibrated in mmHg.

Crystal
A clear plastic disc that protects the dial, and indicator needle, from damage while permitting unobstructed viewing.
Dial
The graduated face calibrated in mmHg. The dial contains graduations every 2mmHg. ADC’s premium diagnostix brand gauges feature extended graduation marks to eliminate parallax error, and are serialized for traceability. Selected models even feature a luminescent dial for easy reading in low light.

Indicator Needle
Revolves around the face like a watch hand. Selected ADC indicator needles are luminescent for easy reading even in low light.
Zero Point
In most gauges, the zero point is actually an oval, or rectangle that measures 6mmHg across. If the needle rests outside this oval, or rectangle (zero point), the gauge is in need of calibration. If the needle rests within the oval it MAY need calibration – only proper testing against a reference standard can determine if a gauge is IN calibration.

Integrated bulb and valve
Palm type gauges integrate the bulb, valve and movement into a single instrument. Especially convenient in multicuff instruments popular in EMS, or wherever a wide range of cuffs may be needed quickly. ADC’s bulb and valve are centered on the instrument, permitting ambidextrous use.
